Design Inspirations.
Our founder Najwa Mroue shares the story behind her design inspirations……
My personal style is very much an eclectic blend of abstract beauty and rule breaking imperfection, in fact there really are no 'rules' when I am designing. I love creating unexpected juxtapositions with colour, pattern and materials - schemes that create conversation and spark debate. Functionality and workability are critical but they should never be at the expense of personal expression. I thrive on understanding each client and seek to see the world through their eyes - I strongly believe that the principles of residential design should reflect individual personalities and perspectives. On a personal level my own style is very influenced by my cultural heritage - born in Beirut during troubled times, my family moved to Czechosolvakia and remained during its transition to the Czech Republic, following several years back in Lebanon I have also lived in France and for the last 15 years have called England my home. That blend of experiences and cultural nuances have all had a dynamic impact on my creative style.
Design Inspiration
I adore two classic design movements - Art Deco and Mid-Century. The otherworldly glamour of Art Deco's symmetrical lines and striking finishes represents an escapism that draws me in time and again whilst the strong shapes, materials and styles of mid-century feed my vintage curiosity.
My own home style
A swirling mix of eclectic abstraction - dynamic shapes, contrasting patterns and bold materials interwoven with the spirit of Marrakech and punctuated with expressive art
Najwa’s Home
Current crush
Tacchini's Sesann sofa designed by the indomitable Gianfranco Fratini. It's bold volume and architectural tubing are a sublime combination.
Piece I can't live without
My much loved vintage swivel chair - acquired on ebay for £20 and given a dynamic makeover with some beautiful burgundy fabric from Colefax and Fowler
Favourite destination
Marrakech. The untouchable spirit of a vibrant heritage - beauty and imperfection juxtaposed so perfectly together. The food, colours, architecture, patterns and sounds - I love the mix of them all and adore spending time there at any given opportunity. Definitely my happy place!
